It’s been a rough few weeks.

Last Wednesday, we lost our kitty Loretta. We had known for some time that she was very sick , but it didn’t make it any easier. She passed peacefully at home in my arms.

That same afternoon I received a phone call from my parents… the one I’ve been dreading for a long time. Our family dog, Amber, had cancer. She had internal bleeding, and our vet didn’t know how long she would last. It was possible she would last a few weeks, but it was also possible that she would have a bleed and collapse at any time. The recommendation was to put her to sleep… and although none of us wanted to say goodbye, we couldn’t stand the thought of her suffering. I flew back to Newfoundland the next day, so that I could see her one last time, and be there for her when she was put to sleep on Friday. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do.

To my Boo (Amber, Ammer, Boo-Bear, Scoober), our hearts are broken. You were our very first pup, and everything about you was perfect. As hard as it was to say goodbye, I wouldn’t change a thing, because having you in our lives was the very best… You were there for every moment, from my high school graduation to my wedding, and showed us unconditional love in the way that only a dog can. We’ll miss you every single day. Rest easy, my furry boo bear, we love you forever.

{After the bean-bag chair got eaten, she made the couch into her bed.}

{It was her favourite place to snooze, even when she got older.}

{She was less than impressed when Hitchen and I got Stella, but she was… tolerant.}

{And she was ALWAYS up for a hike.}

{Especially if the hike involved snacks…}

{…Or naps.}

{And she was safety-conscious during hunting season.}

{She was also good at supervising garden work.}

{Or supervising anything really. Especially if there was food involved.}

{And she took a mean selfie. Though, that’s no surprise with a face that cute. (Dad, you’re not bad either.)}
