Obviously hazelnuts and chocolate are a winning combination…. hello Nutella! This chocolate hazelnut milk is made in much the same way as almond milk, just with a nut substitution and the addition of a little cocoa and honey. So good, and not terrible for you either (for me, this basically qualifies as health food). It’s extra good in your coffee!
INGREDIENTS
makes ~ 3 cups
160 g hazelnuts
750 mL water, plus more for soaking
50 g honey
20 g cocoa powder
1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
DIRECTIONS
Add the hazelnuts to a jug, cover with a couple of cups of water, and leave to soak overnight.
Strain the nuts, and rinse well. Add the nuts and 750 mL water to a blender, and blend on high speed for a couple minutes until everything is smooth.
Add the honey, cocoa powder, and vanilla, and blend for a few seconds more to combine.
Pour the mixture through a strainer and discard the remaining nut pulp. Alternatively you can strain the milk though a piece of cheesecloth or mesh bag, which is preferable if you want smoother milk, I just didn’t have one on hand!
Store in the fridge, and consume within a few days.
