Cooked breakfasts always remind me of weekend mornings when I was a kid. I have the best memories of sitting around with Mom and Dad late in the morning for a big breakfast, often followed by berry picking or a hike in the woods! So while my Mom was here earlier this month, she made french toast one morning, but with an awesome new addition – fried pears! So good, especially when the french toast is made with real french bread. *Also, I learned recently (from my lovely French colleague who is always happy to answer all my ridiculous French questions) that french toast exists here in France, but is called pain perdu (lost bread!). Anyway, here’s the recipe!
INGREDIENTS
1 tablespoon butter
2 pears, cut into sections
raw sugar
cinnamon
1 tablespoon butter
2 eggs
splash of milk
dash of cinnamon
6 to 8 slices of bread
*optional:
maple syrup
plain yogurt
blueberry sauce
DIRECTIONS
Heat a frying pan over medium-high heat, and melt the butter. Sprinkle the raw sugar over the pieces of pear, until the are well coated. Lightly sprinkle with cinnamon.
Fry the pears, flipping only once, until they are browned slightly on each side. Set aside.
Meanwhile, prepare the bread. Whisk together the eggs, milk, and cinnamon, and soak the bread in the mixture (both sides).
Once the pears are removed from the pan, add butter, and fry the bread on each side until golden and the egg is fully cooked.
Enjoy with maple syrup, yogurt, and (Mom’s homemade) blueberry sauce :)
