Mac n’ cheese is one of those awesome comfort foods that I really crave sometimes, especially during the winter months. I made a big batch this week, and decided to step it up a little with some delicious French cheeses! In addition to cheddar (which is surprisingly hard to find in France) read more →
Galette des Rois

It’s Galette des Rois day in France! Galette des Rois (“King Cake”) is essentially puff pastry stuffed with almond filling, and it’s a tradition in France enjoyed on the last day of the Christmas season. Actually, you’ll find them in bakeries starting around mid-December and stretching into January, but that’s probably because read more →

And just like that, another year has gone by. 2016 was our second full calendar year in the beautiful city of light, and with our days in Paris numbered, I’ve been thinking a lot about the amazing adventure we’ve had here. read more →
Homemade Partridgeberry Passion Flakies
December 1, 2016 | Sweet Recipes | Permalink
Have you ever had a Passion Flakie ? These were one of my favourite treats when I was a kid. However, I just learned recently that these were distinctly a Canadian treat, so if you live outside Canada, you probably missed out. It’s basically a pre-packaged puff pastry square, stuffed with strawberry filling and some whipped cream. What’s not to love?
I recently decided to make my own version of these treats from scratch, except instead of mystery strawberry filling, I made partridgeberry filling from Newfoundland berries. read more →

Pumpkin Spice Cheesecake
November 24, 2016 | Sweet Recipes | Permalink
This recipe combines two of my favourite things – pumpkin, and cheesecake. While pumpkin desserts are typically associated with Thanksgiving (Happy Thanksgiving to my American friends!), I personally think they’re a delight that can be enjoyed throughout the Fall. This recipe makes the perfect pumpkin cheesecake that’s both light and creamy, with a crispy graham crust. read more →
Homemade Puff Pastry
November 21, 2016 | Sweet Recipes | Permalink
While it’s no secret that I love pastry (you can find all my pastry + pie related recipes here ), up until recently I had never tried making puff pastry from scratch. I’m not entirely sure why, because I really do love puff pastry. And the pre-made stuff that you can buy just doesn’t have the best flavour (probably because it’s usually made with mystery fats instead of butter).
I tried making it for the first time a few weeks ago while I was home in NL, and I can honestly say that I’ll never buy the packaged version again! read more →
Classic Banana Bread

When I think of comfort food, there are quite a few things that come to mind, but one in particular is banana bread. It’s super satisfying, and I love that while it’s technically a dessert, I never feel bad eating it for breakfast :) read more →
